Speaking about the recent terrorist attacks, he said, “the cause of evil has wounded this land. They can tear down buildings but never our will." Perry described the cadets who have served the United States as “heroes of challenges past," who “endured the unthinkable so others could enjoy freedom.” He said that America will meet its newest chal lenge of terrorism, and that “our heart of freedom is stronger than any challenge.” While he praised the cadets, he also warned them of “overzealous patriotism and boasting,” and said that soldiers are not made by boasting but by “silent strength.” He also said that the young men and women in the Corps may be the ones called on to overcome those opposed to freedom and that he was proud to be in their presence. Perry' presented a certificate to Joe Dicke: Corps commander and a senior geography in proclaiming Sept. 2J as Corps of Cadets D. the state of Texas. Russell Hurst, a sophomore general sti major and member of the Corps, said Governor's presentation was inspiring. “It was good because he made it really pa ic and brought light to the Corps and theirac plishments,” Hurst said.
