Graduation party turns deadly one teen kille
DALLAS (AP) — One teen
ager was shot to death and an
other critically wounded when a
graduation party turned deadly
over the weekend. ,
Neighbors had called police
to complain that dozens of teens
had gotten out of control before
shots rang out at the Southeast
Dallas home early Sunday.
Rena to Marquez, 16, died at
Baylor University Medical Cen
ter in Dallas after friends drove
him to the hospital, police said.
Cristian Estevane, 15, was shot
in the head and taken to Baylor
Medical Center, where he re
mained in the intensive care unit
Monday, police said.
Witnesses said almost 200
people attended the party, while
police estimated the crowd at
closer to 100. Detectives inter
viewed witnesses Sunday and
tried to piece together what hap
pened at the Pleasant Grove par
ty, said Sgt. Larry Lewis, a homi
cide unit supervisor.
■ Sherri Schawo, a neighbor,
and her boyfriend Karl Harrison
said they called police because
cars blocked a driveway. Noise
from the party could be heard
down the block and many party-
goers who appeared underage
were drinking beer, they said.
Harrison, who placed the call
from Schawo’s house at 10:34
p.m. Saturday, said a dispatcher
told him officers would “take
care of it.” But officers
arrive until after a seconc
came in at 12:41 a.m. Si

“The police didn’t do
jobs. The parents didn't do
jobs. It’s irresponsible on
parts,” Schawo said.
