Another proposal made to the
Faculty Senate was reinstating the
Faculty Senate Aggie Spirit Award.
According to the resolution pre
sented to the Senate, the monetary
award will be given to “students
who attend Texas A&M University
... in spite of significant physical or
other handicaps.”
Dr. Richard Carlson, deputy speak
er and geology professor, suggested the
re-establishment of the award based on
a past student’s effort in his course.
“Last spring, I had a young
woman with a mild case of MS (mul
tiple sclerosis) in my class. She nev
er complained,” Carlson said. “It oc
curred to me that there are a lot of
students here who have to deal with
additional difficulties everyday.”
The Faculty Senate unanimous
ly approved the proposal, creating
committee to handle the detailsoi
the award.
The next meeting of the Facul
Senate will be Feb. 12 at 3:15 p.m.
