That event, which touched off the

modern civil rights movement, is
created inside a new museum hon
ing Parks. The museum opens Fri-
ty on the site of the old theater.
Parks, now 87, will be in Mont-
mery on Friday when Troy State
niversity Montgomery dedicates
e Rosa Parks Library and Museum.
Joining Parks will be such civil
rights figures as Martin Luther King
III, president of the Southern Christ
ian Leadership Conference; former
U.N. Ambassador Andrew Young;
the Rev. Jesse Jackson; poet Maya
Angelou; and actress Cecily Tyson.
Inside the museum, visitors will get
a chance to see and feel a little of what
segregated Montgomery was like 45
years ago. The highlight of the muse
um is a bus that was used in Mont
gomery at the time of Parks’ arrest.
Looking in the bus windows, visi
tors will see a video that recreates the
famous conversation between Parks
and the driver.
Community leaders angered over
her arrest launched a boycott of
Montgomery buses on Dec. 5, 1995.
The protest lasted a year, lifted the
Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. to na
tional prominence and resulted in a
Supreme Court ruling integrating
public transportation.

He was my
hero.”
— Jack Hemmingway
in reference to his father,
Ernest Hemmingway
tmation be released.
He is the father of actress Mariel Hemingway, actress-model Margaux,
ho died of a drug overdose in 1996, and an older daughter, Muffet.
His sister-in-law, Bee Pierce, told The Idaho Statesman on Wednesday that
efell ill while en route to Europe, underwent surgery but went into cardiac
est when a suture burst. She said Hemingway was on life support and fam-
y members were deciding whether to discontinue the treatment.
Hemingway’s early life was re-
— counted in his father’s “A Mpveable
Feast.”
The boy, nicknamed “Bumby,”
spent his toddler years in Parisian
cafes frequented by writers such as F.
Scott Fitzgerald. Gertrude Stein and
her partner, Alice B. Toklas, were his
godparents and frequently babysat
for him.
As a teen-ager, he visited his father in Pamploma, Sphin; Havana, and Key
r Vest, Fla., where the pair bonded by hunting, fishing and boxing together.
I The elder Hemingway committed suicide in Ketchum, Idaho, where he
Jiad a home, in 1961.
“When he was with you, you were the total center of his attention. But
Bvhen I left to go back to school, I was out of his mind,” Hemingway told The
ew York Times in June 1999.
“He was my hero.”
Hemingway, a big and stout man who resembled his famous father, re-
alled their relationship in his 1986 memoir, The Misadventures of a Fly Fish-
iman: My Life With and Without Papa. He also wrote at least three other
looks on fishing and penned the afterword for Hemingway on Fishing, a re
cently released compilation of his father’s writings about the sport.
| A longtime Idaho resident, he served as a member of the state’s fish and
I ame commission and is known for his conservation efforts. “He gave of
imself to preserve the things he loved,” said former Idaho Gov. Cecil An-
_ ms, who appointed him to the commission.
He has spent part of his recent years, along with his two half brothers,
verseeing licensing agreements of products bearing the Ernest Hemingway
ame. They include sports clothes and a collection of furniture, clocks and
ther accessories.
