THE BATTALION
Vapor Transmission
Orgy
CD Courtesy of Reprise Records
After the success of Candyass
featuring the cover of “Blue Mon
day,” Orgy has returned with a solid
follow-up. Vapor Transmission,
proving that Orgy is not a one-hit-
wonder band.
Vapor Transmission allows the
the five-member band to showcase
what it is good at — a wild fusion
of subtle keyboards, catchy rhythm
and vocals — coming close to the
caliber of Candyass.
However, what makes Orgy suc
cessful is its ability to take elements
from the ’80s such as the synthesiz
er, and meld them with ’90s metal.
It is refreshing to find a band that
takes metal and does not have a rap
per or singer attached to it.
Retaining the same electric-
dark-metal feel through the album
and creating a sound that borders on
Depeche Mode, Orgy has once
again created a smooth and tex
tured sound that is meaningfully
aggressive.
For Vapor Transmission, Orgy
has kicked up a notch and produced
a heavier and mature sound. All of
the songs have interesting
touches, from the futuristic
introduction to an explosive
ending with “Where’s Ger-
rold?” The ballad “Fiction,”
“Eva” and "Recreation” are
some of the best moments
of the album.
Orgy throws out every
trick in the book for this al
bum, trying to create a max
imum music impact for the
listener using weird vocal
effects, string instruments
and moments of extreme
passion from singer Jay
Gordon.
At times, the effects risk
overwhelming the music
and can seem gimmicky, butii;
freshing to see a band go fario
please the listener insteadofnoi!
ing far enough. (Grade: B)

Can You Feel It?
Charles Feelgood
CD Courtesy of Moonshine Music
This CD opens strong not
with its first track, but with the
introduction by D.L. Hughley. A
mellow house song is overlaid
with a few minutes of Hughley’s
stand-up routine, which by itself
almost makes the CD worth the
money. The rest of the CD, how
ever, does not have the same
universal appeal. Whereas
Hughley has crossed over to en
tertain almost everyone, the
tracks on this CD will most like
ly entertain only true late-night
house fans.
This album is full of slow
tunes guaranteed to chill out any
