Octobe. Wednesc THE BATTALION MediEvil II System: Playstation Genre: Action Developer: Sony Interactive Video games are evaluated on several criteria, but above all, they should be fun to play. MediEvil II, the sequel to the first sword-slashing romp through the un dead, may not be an earth-shattering evolution in the world of video games, but its has its share of entertain ment value. Players reprise the role of Sir Daniel Fortesque. a long-dead knight who rises from the dead to protect the world from the black magic that gives him life. From the game’s beginning, when Sir Dan removes one of his arms to use it as a weapon, it is obvious this game does anything but take itself seriously. Overall, MediEvil II is overly cartoon-like, but the tolerance level for endless animated bashing and jumping is different for every gamer, so some will enjoy this game more than others. As with most 3-D action games, Me diEvil suffers from confusing camera an gles and the frustrating views created by them. However, the game attempts to com pensate with camera-control options on the controller, one of many added game-play options. While the addition of new weapons and playing abilities make the game more inter esting, it leaves the simplicity of the original game behind and replaces it with confusion. Graphically speaking, the character ren derings are decent, and the cut scenes are fun to watch, but overall, the visuals are average. The comic value of MediEvil II is its strong point, but has the potential to get old. Fans of the original MediEvil should check this one out, but for everyone else it may only be worth a rental. (Grade C+) Ruben DeLuna Loud On Earth Daniel Cage CD Courtesy of MCA Records Loud On Earth is a consistent, multilayered pop al bum that is enjoyable on the first listen, but intriguing enough to inspire repeated listening. Cage and his producers do not make the same mis takes one might expect from a major-label debut. There are no bubble-gum lyrics or prepubescent awkward ness that overload most major-label debuts. Instead, Cage already has a style and voice of his own. Every track on Loud On Earth is filled with cur tains of sound from guitar and piano melodies that move in and out with a steady and driving drum beat in the background. This is urban, groove-based music somewhere between Peter Gabriel and Remy Zero, with a little Talking Heads thrown in for fun. Cage’s raspy vocals and surreal, delirious music sound immediately familiar, but unlike other groufi with similar approaches, Cage ends up with a souffT uniquely his own — catchy and upheat, not cheesjj generic. The lyrical content draws heavily on relationship! and Cage tells his story with large sweeps andgralj statements. The title of his album seems to be < from the production of the music, and listening toi album with the volume turned up adds the energy! force every frustrated city dweller should apprecialfl The album was produced with a deft hand by.CapJ and a team of industry big hitters who have helped Dish walla and The Pretenders create their genre#! ing sounds. The team helped Cage find a strongvoice| in a crowded market. This debut makes one notice Cage is an artist#j thy of a second listen. (Grade: B+) -Hillary!
