Park to be decorated with lights for victims By Cyra Gatling The liutudion To commemorate the lives of the 12 Accics who died in the 1999 Bonfire collapse, the city of College Station will decorate Bison Park with 12 dedicated street lightsanda state marker. Each street light will have a miniature plaque with the deceased Aggie’s name, class, hometown and there w ill he a picture of a bonfire above the name. “We want something permanem in memory of these students,” said Margaret Griffith, co-chair of the College Station historic preserva tion committee and health educa tion coordinator at A.P. Beutel Health Center. David Ceiling, special facilities su perintendent and emergency shelter coordinator for the city of College Sta tion and the state markers w ill costbe- tween S 900 and 1.100 and the costoi the plaques has not yet been estimated The state marker will have a state ment about how the tragedy affected the College Station community, alone with a list of the Aggies w ho died. Nomination are made by neighbors or others if the community, Jasek said. The idea behind this is to recognize people who restore or enhance thehu toric area, Jasek said. The committee discussed a poten tial book and film on the historyo! the Bryan-College Station area which would begin once adequate funding is received.
