Records With the recent success of white rappers like Kid Rock and Eminem, it was inevitable that a slew of imita tors and wannabes would follow close behind. Brougham falls firmly into this category as it raps its way through a laid-back and altogether mellow album. One gets the impression that these tattooed men want to have attitude. Why then does their music sound like the sort of stuff junior high kids think is cool? None of their songs really jump past old stuff and into musical inventiveness. Rather, they choose to rehash a variety of other styles with minimal success. None of the anger or inventive rhyming of Kid Rock or Eminem comes through with this group in what seems a shallow and amateurish effort. For the most part, this album is a watered-down version of '90s rap. It sounds like the musical revolution of recent years never happened. For people who like their new mu sic to sound old. this is a good CD. For those who like their new music to sound fresh, avoid this album at all costs (in spite of the eye-catching i cover). (Grade: D) — Matt McCormick Darryl Worley Hard Rain Don’t Last Dreamworks Records Country music newcomer Worley has been gar nering some play time for his first single, “When You Need My Love.” In spite of his rather plain, twangy voice, Worley has a keen music-making sense that is evident on hi debut album. This album, more than the first single, could be the reason radio stations are beginning to play thi new artist. He demonstrates a savvy style that could actually propel him above the constant crowd of ne» singers attempting to break into the ranks of country music legends. Worley manages to record traditional songs and make them sound fresh and original. This is not as hard as it sounds; more and more country musicians are making music that is not con sidered true country. Worley avoids this categoryal together with a collection of old-time ballads and swinging honkytonk songs. Not a breakout album, this collection of songsisi solid steppingstone from which this promising anist could build a long and steady career. (Grade: B-) — Matt McCormict Tuesday, Septembi La Texa Various Artists Coyote Ugly Soundtrack Curb Records The soundtrack to Coyote Ugly is an eclectic mix of music featuring artists from Charlie Daniels to INXS. What common theme could these var ious musicians possibly share? Great songs for scantily clad hotties to dance to on a bar. While the movie is great to watch, the theme does not neces sarily make the most exciting album, except for the Leann Rime’s songs. Leann Rimes is a country singer, right? Not necessarily, according to the music on this album, which features four very pop-infused songs. In recent years. Rimes has struggled to find her niche in the country-music world, despite having one of the best voices of all time. After listening to "The Right Kind of Wrong,” a very non-country tune, one almost wonders, why bother? Why not cross over to a more mainstream style of music, one that would embrace and offer opportunities for such a gifted voice? Each of Rimes' songs has a vibrancy and an irresistible appeal that much of her country mu sic has lacked. Those four songs alone are nearly worth the price of the entire CD. And then, for an added bonus, a person could go ahead and jam out to Snap’s "The Power.” (Grade: B-) — Matt McCormick ByArun ARJUtS The Battalion An overnigl have unpleasan jor Christie CF semester to par The travel i likely experien land insomnia c zones. ‘The trip w; day al ter we arr to get back to n This type ol seas travelers a sleeping schedi other odd shift; orientation and atypical sleep p ated effects on 1 The problerr ral timing syst Dr. Susan G( said jet lag is th m internal time formation from esearc rare cho heart-at1 DALLAS (AP) eve Is of a lit bad” choleste ore likely to 1 han those wit! ions of this li lood, accordii ALL YOU CAN EAT BOTTOMLESS PLATTER $599 4 Served daily from 11-5 p.m. Now open till 11 p.m. on Thursday!
