The slayings happened outside Kingwood Medical Center's emer gency room about 1 p.m., said Hous ton Police Department spokesperson Sylvia Trevino. No one else was in jured in the shooting. Kingwood is a suburb north of Houston. "It was really scary," said Marge Schwartz, who was visiting her sister inside the hospital when the shots rang out. "I never dreamt that it was gun shots, I just heard this popping noise." The man shot his wife and another man numerous times with a high-cal iber revolver before turning the gun on himself, Trevino said. The identities of the three were not released. Hospital officials said the shooting happened inside a wooden gazebo standing near the emergency room en trance. None of the deceased were em ployees or patients. “I never dreamt that it was gun shots, I just heard this popping noise." — Marge Schwartz hospital visitor Chuck Schuetz, a hospital execu tive, said, immediately after the inci dent, several staff members worked to save the three victims. "We did our best to resuscitate them, but 90 minutes later, they were dead," Schuetz said. Hours later, police had cordoned off the area around the gazebo, which stood in a grassy courtyard near the entrance to the emergency room. A crying hospital worker could be seen standing near another entry way, along with a colleague who appeared to be consoling the woman. The motive for the shooting was not immediately known, but Trevino said it may have been caused by marital discord. "It appears it's is going to be a love triangle situation," Trevino said of the incident. "The shooter believed he found his wife with another man." Paul Barnes, who arrived at the scene after the shooting, but saw the police cars and a crowd of onlookers, said he was surprised violence had erupted at Kingwood's hospital, normally a quiet place.
