Attorneys oppose tQteriii

QUEEN BEA
BY NOTORIOUS U-B
HOUSTON (AP) — Attorneys opposed to Internet
pornography filtering at Montgomery County libraries
have formally requested county documents about the pol
icy, a likely precursor to a lawsuit.
"In terms of litigation, we need to show the district
court what it is we are asking to declare unconstitution
al," attorney Sally Mann Romano of the Freedom of In
formation Foundation of Texas told the Houston Chronicle
Monday.
Romano said the U.S. Supreme Court and lower courts
have already ruled Internet filtering violates the First
Amendment of the Constitution. Her organization says
the county can use other methods to keep pornography
away from children.
County Judge Alan B. Sadler said he had notsm!
open-records request.
"Anything we passed in court is obviously open
and readily available to the public," Sadler said.
Commissioners in the county directly north ofHi
ordered the county' library system in March tobeginl
the Internet after a socially conservative group a
computers were being used to view pornography. Thes
was given despite advice from the county attorney,
rector and library advisory board.
The commissioners acted at the urging of AdultsHi
