Page 4 THE BATTALION Monday, July 17,1 Gig ‘Em Week Continued from Page 1 "It's designed to welcome students to Texas A&M and meet other fresh men as well as members of school organizations," Wimberly said. Wimberley said students who attend Gig 'Em Week activities will receive a Gig 'Em Week passport with a list of events. The passport will allow new stu dents the opportunity to win prizes, such as book scholarships, a semes ter's worth of gas and $50 of free laundry cleaning. Students will receive Gig 'Em Week passports as they check into residence halls, or they can be picked up at the Gig 'Em Week central head quarters on the second floor of Rudder Tower. Clark said the idea for Gig 'Em Week came from similar programs on other campuses. "Gig 'Em Week is based in part on what other schools do as far as welcoming new students," Clark said. Gig 'Em Week will begin Aug. 23 and continue until Aug. 31. Some activities will continue until Sept. 3. Gilchrist Continued from Page 1 Richardson said, "The institute is proud to be located in a building named for this dedicated transportation leader and educator. A plaque is being pre pared for the TTI lobby that will include a like ness of Mr. Gilchrist as well as a description of his achievements." Bears’ P.R. chief quits amid probt CHICAGO (AP) — Federal investi gators are looking at possible gambling by the former public relations director of the Chicago Bears, including suspicions that he bet on the team's games, a news paper reported Sunday. The Chicago Sun-Times said investi gators also were looking at possible connections between a bookie and Bryan Harlan, who left as the Bears' PR chief on Friday. Harlan is suspected of placing bets on league games, including some involving the Bears, unidentified sources told the Sun-Times. There have been no allega tions of point-shaving, and no players or coaches are believed to be involved in the investigation, the paper said. The league bars betting on its games by players and team employees, and pro hibits them from "associating with gam blers or gambling activities in a manner tending to bring discredit to the NFL." Because of Harlan's position with the Bears and knowledge of team activities, any gambling activities or relationship with a bookie would be particularly to bling to the NFL. Greg Aiello, the NFL's vice preside of public relations, said Sunday hea not comment on the newspaper repoi The Bears announced Friday fe Harlan, who has been with thetei since 1984, was resigning, butmadeu mention of the federal investigation. It team said Harlan, 39, was taking a p&l tion with the Chicago public relafoJ firm Kendrick Communications.
