The album starts out happy wit the first track, "Free City Rhymes The song is catchy, but is an excej tion to the rest of the album. Then of the songs -are reminiscent ol poet conversing inside a dark,dn coffee shop. Kim Gordon, Sonic Youth's singer, wastes her vocal talents) talking rather than singing. The new bad boy of rap is not only a bigot and wife-beater, but also a master of rhymes and humor. Apparently Eminem did not get out all of his frustrations on his first studio album. The Marshall Mathers LP is rid dled with hatred, Eminem makes outrageous remarks with the sole purpose to defame individuals, such as his wife Kim and pop sensation Christina Aguilera. The majority of the album does not showcase the friendly stylings of the first single, "The Real Slim Shady." Most have harder beats and are more agressive lyrically. The track "Kim" is an ode to the emotional and alleged physical abuse he bestowed upon his wife and moth er of his daughter Hailey. Mathers started his career in the rap underground of Detroit and caught the eye of hit-maker, rap mogul Dr. Dre. Under his wing, Em inem has the ability to win over audi ences and sell the the most albums in a single week for a solo artist. The content on this LP should not be listened to by those who are easily offended. Much of the blatant hate re marks are said in jest or should not be taken seriously. Although he claims he could care less about a Grammy, rhymes do not tend to flow any better. P.S. Do not bring this CD home to mom. (Grade: B) -JeffKempf AAA Texas Defensive Driving.
