Titan A.E.
Starring the voices of
Matt Damon, Drew Barrymore
Directed by Don Bluth
Rated PG
When Fox gave Titan A.E. the
green light, they wanted it to be the
summer adventure movie that would
appeal to teenage boys, and they got
exactly that. This film has plot holes
the size of planets and cheesy dia
logue throughout, but still manages
to be a great adventure with intense
action and amazing visual effects.
At the dawn of the 31st century.
Earth is destroyed by the Drej, a mys
terious alien race made of pure ener
gy. Although hundreds of races exist
in the fantasy world of Titan A.E., the
Drej decide to pick on the humans
and hunt them to extinction. The fun
niest part of this is that no reason is
given why the Drej want to find the
Titan A.E., a spaceship built to save
humanity, and destroy the human
race. Gale (Damon) is humanity's last
hope because his father, who created
a mysterious ship called the Titan
A.E., hid the ship and left a map to
find it on Gale's hand. No explanation
is offered for what happened to Gale's
father or why he died after the Titan
A.E. disappeared, was well-hidden
and was never used.
Despite its many flaws, Titan A.E.
delivers intense action and comput
er animation mixed with traditional
animation almost seamlessly. The
worlds of Titan A.E. are creative and
stunningly beautiful. The action is
fast and intense.
So while Titan A.E. has its share of
problems, it is a fun, exciting movie
that should not be taken too seriously,
just enjoyed. (Grade: B)

Those pesky Farrely brothers are
back for their fourth comedy feature
starring Carrey — also featured in
their debut film. Dumb and Dumber.
This time around is pretty much the

gross-out humor galore and no sign
of political correctness. But like the
other Farrely brothers' films, this
one is hilarious from start to finish.
