ROOMMATES SAN ANTONIO (AP) — A part-time golf bookie who supported his family of four with wagers against a South Texas millionaire is expected to continue his testimony by explaining how the high-stakes golf games led to murder. Daniel Rocha, 30, is serving a life prison term in Flori da for solicitation of capital murder in the 1997 shooting and stabbing death of Sheila Bellush, a mother of quadruplets, in her Sarasota, Fla., home. During his trial, Rocha testified that Allen Black- thorne, 45, paid him to arrange Bellush's death. Blackthorne is now on trial for interstate conspiracy to commit murder for hire and interstate domestic violence. Bellush moved to Florida after a 10-year divorce and custody battle over her and Blackthorn's then teen-age children. She was killed six weeks after moving out of Texas. Her 2-year-old quadruplets were discovered un harmed, two of them crawling in their mother's blood. The San Antonio businessman is expected to draw upon a wealth of financial resources in his defense, while his legal team has reportedly prepped for their day in court two years before Blackthorne was even indicted. He has denied any involvement in the crime. Rocha's testimony on Monday centered on how he met Blackthorne. He said the wealth generated in high stakes golfing games brought the weekend bookie, his wife and three children out of a cramped home with an aunt and into a home of their own. "I went from living paycheck to paycheck to some times $10,000 to $20,000 a week,'' Rocha testified. Testimony ended Monday before Rocha explained the murder-for-hire plot. In previous testimony, Rocha described how he en listed the help of a friend, Samuel Gonzales, 29, agreed to find someone willing to do the job for$4,ll Jose Luis Del Toro Jr., 23, Gonzales' cousin, isaci of being the hit man. Testifying against his friend after pleading guilh solicitation of capital murder, Gonzales said Rochati him the money and the plan came from Blackthorne Gonzales has been sentenced to 19 years in a prison.
