(AP) — A killer whose life was spared five times by reprieves was executed Tues day night for the 1991 murder.of a fast-food restaurant employee. Feltus Taylor, 39, shot Donna Ponsano to death during a rob bery at Cajun’s Fabulous Fried Chicken in Baton Rouge. The manager, Keith Clark, was shot four times in the head and left partially paralyzed. Taylor, who had been hired and fired twice as a fry cook at the restaurant, had gone to the restaurant to get his job back. Clark had already replaced Taylor, but he gave him 35 cents to buy a newspaper so the two could sort through classified ads. Clark said Taylor snapped when Ponsano passed by, grabbed her arms and demand ed that Clark open the safe. Clark gave Taylor $1,300, but Tay lor still opened fire. Taylor’s most recent reprieve came in September. He was eating his final meal of seafood gumbo and fried soft-shell crabs when his execution was delayed by the Supreme Court. The high court lifted the re prieve in April when it refused to hear the appeal. orship Directory Cathode Tree ‘Will ‘Baptist St. Mary’s Catholic Center 603 Church Avenue in Northgate (979)846-5717 www.aaaiecatholic.org Pastoral Team Rev. Every Tuesday in The Battalion N NEWS Thursday, June 8,2 THE BATTALION FBI investigates eBay fraud SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The FBI is investigating whether people are driving up prices at online auctioneer eBay by bidding on each others' items. The probe was launched after lawyer Kenneth A. Walton tried to auc tion an abstract painting bidders be lieved was by Richard Diebenkorn, whose work has sold for millions. A spokesman in the FBI's Sacramen to office, which is leading the investiga tion, declined comment Wednesday. But Donald Vilfer, a supervisory special agent, told The New York Times in a story Tuesday that investigators opened the case after reading a story in the newspaper that described how Walton and other eBay users had bid on each other's items and offered glowing testimonials. Self-bidding, known as shill bid ding, is'forbidden by eBay and is gen erally illegal at traditional auctions. Participation in a bidding ring vio lates federal laws prohibiting mail and wire fraud. Each count carries a maximum penalty of five years in Walton, 32, said Tuesday heliadr been contacted by the FBI and km nothing of an investigation. No one knows if the painting question is in fact an origin Diebenkorn. Walton didn't makefe claim when he offered the "great!* wild abstract painting” he said h bought at a garage sale for auction eBay on April 28. The bidding began at 25cents,v: to $10 and slowly climbed.
