Most recently, Ramzy dominat ed the Texas Relays in Austin. In the triple jump Ramzy posted an auto qualifying mark of 52-0 1/2. “It is nice to know that this year 1 am the one they need to beat,” Ramzy said. “Before I was always trying to catch other people and match their time. Now I’m the one everyone is trying to catch. I can run the show,” While the timing of Ramzy’s success is a surprise, it was not un expected. In his sophomore season he advanced all the way to the semi finals of the 110-meter hurdles at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. His consistency at triple jump has always made him a threat in that event, seldom failing to reach the 50- foot mark in the event. Ramzy’s versatility makes him a prime fit into the 18th-ranked Texas A&M men’s squad. See Bursting on Page 15. BY REECE FLOOD The Battalion Seven teams will travel to College Sta tion this weekend to take part in the Texas A&M Invitational on Saturday at the Frank B. Anderson Track and Field Complex. The 14th-ranked University of Texas, Rice University, Prairie View A&M Univer sity, Texas Southern University, Southwest Texas University, Sam Houston State Uni versity and University of Texas Pan-Amer ican will all compete along with 18th-ranked host Texas A&M University. The action will begin with field events, starting with the women’s long jump at noon and ending with the men’s triple jump at 3 p.m. The running events will begin with the women's 3000 meter run at 3:30 p.m. and end with the men’s 1600 meter relay heats at 8:35 p.m. Coach Ted Nelson said his team is in good condition and is anticipating success this weekend. “We’re pleased with where we are right now,” Nelson said. “On our men’s side, we’re fortunate that we’ve kept most of our men healthy. They’ve performed really well. The women that have performed have done a good job, but we’ve got so many injuries on the sideline on that side. So they haven’t been quite as productive as the men.” Both A&M men’s and women’s teams are coming into the Invitational ranked fourth and tenth individually. “We’re very pleased with that and think that Saturday we may step up and do some things that will increase the rankings a little bit,” Nelson said. The Aggies will have to have strong per formances from a few key weapons in order to move up any higher in the rankings. On the women’s side, the team will look to junior Christina Ohaeri to have a good time in the 100 meter hurdles and the mile relay. There will be some tough competition for Ohaeri to face. But according to her, she is her toughest opponent. “Me and myself are the biggest match up,” Ohaeri said. “It’s all about me. It could be Gail Devers out here running with me, and I may be able to run with here. But if 1 don’t think that, if I just shut down, then I’m not go- STUART VILLANUEVA/Thk Battalion A&M senior Jon Nance practices pole vaulting during practice. A&M already has four men auto matic qualifiers in six events. Superstar junior Bashir Ramzy will see limited action this weekend, only par ticipating in the long jump and the 400 meter relay. “We’re really going to rest Bashir a lit tle bit from things he’s been doing because he is our guy that kind of makes our team go and does so many things for us,” Nel son said. Taking his place in the hurdle events will be freshman Mike Mills. Sophomore Bran don Evans will participate in the long jump and the triplejump, while junior Mike Hum mel will run the 800 meter dash.
