It will be a great honor for this statue to be kept here,” Wajda told Polish Radio after a ceremony in Krakow. The 73-year-old filmmaker re ceived this year’s honorary Oscar in recognition for his career maneu vering between a repressive com munist government and an audi ence yearning for freedom. “Let this award remind all young people who visit... that Polish film- making, which has an honorable past, also has a great future," the director said.
