“I’ve made sure not to say anything nega
tive about the writer because 1 just knew him
for two days, and 1 actually got along with him
pretty well,” Williams said Wednesday. “I re
ally wasn’t in the mood to do the interview
and maybe that’s why he had a hard time.”
In the March 16 article, Williams, who
lives in Austin, Texas, criticized some team
mates, his new coach and suggested moving
the Saints from New Orleans, a place where he
said, “losing engulfs you.”
The second-year running back has since
apologized to the team and city. On Tuesday,
he hired a new agent, Leigh Steinberg, who
said Williams likes New Orleans and wants to
play there.
“Ricky Williams is a wonderful young
man with tremendous character,” Steinberg
said. “The journalist had a fixed agenda to try
to despoil a popular figure. This writer has a
history of this and enjoys humiliating sports
figures.”
He noted an article Bradley wrote about
former Saints coach Mike Ditka in which Dit-
ka also criticized New Orleans.
Bradley, a four-year letterman center on
LSU’s football squad, said he could have
made Williams look worse had he not stopped
his tape recorder and warned Williams of the
potential backlash from certain comments.
“It could have been a positive story had he
been a positive interview,” Bradley said.
Simply setting up the interview was a has
sle, Bradley said.
“The mother even called me and basically
interviewed me to see if I was up to talking to
her kid. She wanted to read my clippings ... so I
spent $81 at Kinko’s,” Bradley said. “I have
never had the mother of a professional athlete
call me like that.”
Williams said he never discussed the article
with his mother.
“My mother is her own person and if that’s
what she saw fit to do, that’s her business,”
Williams said.
Bradley said there appeared to be a specific
motive behind Williams’ comments during the
interview.
“He wanted to send a message to the
Saints,” Bradley said. “He kept repeating the
same things over and over.”
Bradley said he has written articles about
the Dixie Mafia, murderers, abortion-clinic
bombers, celebrities and other sports stars and
called Williams “the most difficult, rude, in
sulting, condescending interview I’ve done in
21 years.”

minger twins will face the scrutiny all
over again on Friday night.
Who’s better?
Jason would say he is. So would
Jesse. The question that matters is who
will be better this weekend?
Both brothers want their twins to
do well, yet at the same time their
competitive spirits make winning the
top priority.
For three games and close to a
dozen meetings, the Gremminger twins
will be less than two feet apart — Jesse
at bat, Jason catching. It is then that the
questions will be answered.
“There’s going to be some serious
mind games going on,” Jesse said. “He
definitely has an advantage, being able
to call the pitches.”
Jason merely said — “I know what
he can hit. I have control.”
