citizens and the University,” he
said. “We carry a message to the
people of the state. We enhance
the access of higher education to
the people.
“Whereas some universities
have an ‘ivory tower’ attitude, we

Smith, a Mississippi native,
graduated magna cum laude from
William Carey College in 1960

University of Mississippi Medical
Center in 1964.
Smith attributes his long
tenure at A&M to the positive ex

“Working with wonderful peo

moving,” he said. “A medical
school with a football team is a
unique experience. Most medical
schools don’t have one that they
are associated as closely with. It
is great that we are able to take
part in that tradition.”

Hafiz Memon, a MSA member
and a senior journalism major,
who helped in coordinating the
program said the seminar is main
ly concerned with how society
deals with the hatred and vio
lence that surrounds everyone in
today’s world.
Memon said students should
attend to hear how Islam provides
a peaceful solution for problems.
The MSA is facilitating semi
nars and discussions this week to
perpetuate student interest and
awareness of Islam.
