EWS
Program aims to assist
students’ housing search
BY JULIE ZUCKER
The Battalion
Students will now have help in
the search for housing or room
mates with Aggie Search, a new
off-campus housing database
available through Adult, Graduate
and Off-Campus Student Services.
The service is for students look
ing for apartments, roommates or
who wish to post
themselves as po
tential roommates
on a Website.
Jennifer Mc
Creary, assis
tant coordinator
of Off Campus
Student Ser
vices, said the
project has been
in the works for 18 months.
“Now that the database is
available, students can find hous
ing or roommates at any time,”
she said.
Students can log on to the Web site
to find roommates or housing options
in the Bryan-College Station area.
Some factors used to narrow the hous
ing search include square footage, rent
per month and amenities.
Links to apartment properties
and their Websites also are avail
able through Aggie Search.
McCreary said the Website
should help students find housing
or roommates who fit with their
daily routines and schedules.
“This system is beneficial to
students who are looking for
housing and roommates,” Mc
Creary said.

There will be a coffee-and-dan-

Blocker Building from 9 to 10 to
kick off the new Web site. Free
food and promotional items will
be available to the general public.

Boyle, who is planning to reap
ply to A&M, said the incident has
made her think twice about com
ing to school here and she is
looking at possibly applying to
other universities.

it’s tempting,” Boyle said. “I just

“It’s not the people.
“Once you fall behind with the
production of the Aggieland, it’s
hard to catch up. That’s all it real
ly was, and now it has been cor
rected.”
Swift said producing the Ag
gieland is a year-long process that
takes a lot of time and commitment
from all involved in the production
of the book.
“It is a full-time job for our
staffers,” she said. “We work crazy
hours. If we are not in class or
studying, we work on the book.
Our ’99 staff was really dedicated,
and everybody put a lot of effort
in [to] producing this book.
“Eighty to 90 percent of our staff
returned, which says a lot about
the Aggieland. ”
The Aggieland is the largest
yearbook in the nation with a cir
culation of 10,000.
Swift said the yearbook will be
entered in the Pacemaker competi
tion, a national competition for
university newspapers and year
books, in July, and the Best-of-
Show competition in Atlanta.
“There is no doubt in my mind
that the ’99 Aggieland is probably
the best [year] book that has ever
been produced here,” she said.
Yearbooks can be purchased for
$37.89 for those who did not
choose the option when registering.
The books will be on sale in 015

don’t feel safe here.”
Brent Paterson, director of the
Department of Student Life, said
the University has worked to cre
ate a safe environment for all stu
dent.
If students engage in acts of vi
olence based on race, gender, or
sexual orientation, they will face
stiff penalties she said.
Boyle said she plans to press
charges against her assailant.
