covered something no one else has
seen before, the percentage of new
discoveries is small,” he said.
Carona said the discovery is an
on-going process because data con
stantly is gathered to trace an ac
curate orbit path.
‘‘We estimate that [the aster
oid] orbits the sun a little more
than every five anci a half years,”
he said.
Carona said the research, which
was funded by a Faculty Research
Grant at SFA, was specifically look
ing for a new stellar body.
Garage

Brymer said the parking garage
is one of the projects the city of Col
lege Station has undertaken to im
prove the Northgate district, since
the Northgate Revitalization Board
(NRB) was organized in 1994.
“The city has undertaken a lot
of public infrastructure improve
ments including improvements
on College Main, the Patricia
Street promenade and the addi
tional parking there.”
Don Canter, owner of the Dix
ie Chicken, the Dry Bean Saloon
and Shadow Canyon, said he be
lieves the Northgate parking
garage is necessary to provide
more parking spaces to the North-
gate area.
“That’s a sort of no-brainer,”
Canter said.
“There is a big sign [that] we
need parking in Northgate.”
Canter is scheduled to open a
barbecue and steak restaurant in
Northgate later this year and an
ticipates an increased need for
parking in the Northgate area.
He said the area needs more
parking than what is currently
provided by on-street parking.

“We want the students to be the

President Bowen to h
barbecue for 100 studei
BY ERIKA DOERR
The Battalion
Texas A&M President Dr. Ray M.
Bowen, and his wife, Sally, will
host a barbecue for 100 students
with free food, entertainment and
an opportunity to visit with the
president and his wife today at 6
p.m., at the President’s home.
Bowen said the Bowen BBQ is a
great way for students to come and
visit with him, his wife, A&M ad
ministrators and coaches in a fun
and open environment.
“1 see and meet a lot of students
in leadership positions, such as stu
dent senate, and now 1 get a chance
to meet with a variety of students
outside these positions,” he said.
Bowen said students were se
lected by random drawings from in
an online lottery.
“Not only will this picnic-style
BBQ be a lot of fun, but there will
also be door-prize drawings, and of
course, free food,” he said. "This
event is aimed at breaking down
formalities, between administrators
and students, and actually letting
students come in our [Dr. and Mrs.
Bowen’s] home and visit with us.”
Bowen said the BBQ has been
held the past three years, but due
to rain, last year was the first
time the event was held at his
home and so now it will be held
there again.

Texas A&M president
Tlira King, a media communica

versity Relations, said Bowen has
the event once every spring and fall
semester.
“Students were invited to regis
ter online,” she said. “A computer
program randomly selected 100
students to have free BBQ at the
President’s home.”
