IRVING (AP) — The Dallas
Cowboys defense has played so
well the last two games that they
have even had a
closing act: 286-
pound lineman
Greg Ellis rum
bling down the
field and stum
bling into the
end zone.
Ellis has
capped consecu
tive victories
with fourth-quarter touchdowns.
On Sunday, he had a team-record
98-yard return of a fumbled snap
in a 35-7 victory over Arizona.
Against Atlanta the week before,
he took an interception 87 yards
for a touchdown to seal a 24-7
victory.
“I think we may have to move
him to the offensive side of the
ball,” Dallas quarterback Troy
Aikman said with a smile.
“Right now, Ellis is the prime
time player around here,” added
cornerback Deion “Prime Time”
Sanders.
Ellis’ highlight film runs are
the signature plays of a speed-
filled defense that has helped the
Cowboys to a 3-0 start, their best
since 1995.
An offseason focus on quick
ness has improved Dallas’ pass
rush and made the unit more
aggressive all over the field. They
may have been too aggressive in
the opener as Washington burned
Dallas for 504 yards and 35
points.
But in the two games since, the
Cowboys’ defense has allowed a
total of 512 yards and 14 points
— and scored 21 points.
Arizona never figured it out.
The Cardinals didn’t have a first
down in the first or third quar
ters, registering more snaps than
yards in each period.
Jake Plummer threw three
interceptions — including one on
his first pass that safety George
Teague returned for a touchdown
— and he fumbled the snap that
turned Ellis loose. Backup Dave
Brown also was picked off.
“They play a pressure
defense,” Plummer said. “They
like to spring the blitz. If you
don’t burn them with the big play,
they’re going to keep blitzing and
that’s what happened to us.”

“I talked to him and he’s in as

through it right now.”
Davis is expected to be out
four to six months and make a
full recovery.
“Right now, with the ACL and
the advancements they’ve made
in technology, you never know
for sure,” Shanahan said.
The coach said Derek Loville
