Kitchens was named as one of Jhree Big 12
Conference Southwestern Bell Players of the
Week for his performance in the
Aggies’ Sept. 4 game against
Louisiana Tech University.
Kitchens, from Lumberton,
Texas, was named Big 12
Specialty Player of the Week;
University of Texas sophomore
quarterback Major Applewhite
was named Big 12 Offensive
Player of the Week; and
Nebraska senior rover Mike
Brown was named Big 12 Defensive Player of
the Week.
Kitchens made the most of his first complete
game in three seasons of kicking for the Aggies.
After having made one extra point kick against
North Texas in his previous career, Kitchens
boomed through 50- and 51-yard field goals in
the first quarter and added a 26-yard field goal
as time ran out at halftime.
Kitchens was 7-for-7 with four extra points and
a trio of three-pointers while also handling kick
off duties.
Applewhite went 17-for-27 and passed for 353
yards and three touchdowns against Stanford
this past Saturday, while becoming the second
Longhorn quarterback ever to pass for more than
300 yards in back-to-back games.
He joins former UT quarterback James Brown
with this distinction.
Brown notched a team best eight tackles
against the University of Iowa.
He sparked a defensive effort that limited the
Hawkeyes tol69 net yards.
