It just means they will decide to either study harder, drop the class or do nothing about it at all. When Cory Morrow got his grades back from his accounting class es, he decided to make music his life. “I decided to play music after 1 got my grades back from my accounting classes at [Texas] Tech,” Morrow said. “They were bad. 1 decided that accounting was n’t for me, and besides, the perks and fringe benefits for playing music are a lot better.” Tonight at Shadow Canyon, Morrow will be enjoy ing one of the best fringe benefits of being a musician — being able to enjoy college life all over again. “Playing in front of old people is different. I can’t talk about drinking and things like that too much,” Morrow said. “Playing in front of college kids, I can cut loose. 1 remember how it used to be — drinking and having fun. Doing this 1 can be in college again, 1 can have fun.” Morrow owes some of the credit for his success to the college crowds, especially at Texas A&M, where he got his start playing at The Tap on Wednesday nights. “We started playing in College Station about three years ago, maybe more, at The Tap on Wednesday nights. They completely backed us up and got us in the door,” Morrow said. “I had been playing in Austin for a while, but we wanted to expand.” Morrow said playing to a College Station crowd is always a positive experience. “The Aggie crowd is the liveliest crowd. They all come out to have fun. In other towns, 1 have to work up the crowd. I don’t know if they (A&M crowds) come out drunk or just ready to get that way. 1 love playing there. ” on the pit ipk tion o plans * ter tha | Civil I ney oi Clintc dbmii cal lev S The crowds are not the only thing from 1 : or b'-T row is grateful for — he is also gratefulfon ^20 dc mer student and fellow Texas musicianRc Keen. Morrow cites Keen, among others, his greatest influences. “1 was influenced by Willie, Merle anil the other classics and Robert Earl Keen, said. "But mostly Robert Earl Keen. Heg excited about this kind of music, llovee he does. 1 love to see how he pulls thecniJ I get a real kick out of playing with him.” Morrow has released two albums andkjj to put together a new album in the next fed His new album will be live, but hesaidiu ferent than most live albums. “Most live albums people will doonlyr previously unrecorded songs, but mine wi: ly all unrecorded songs,” Morrow said. “1 will be a larger album, 14 to 15songs-; some new and some strange covers. 1 wa: acoustic. We will record it either in Hours las, but right now we still have a Vl-JT floating around. Nothing is set." Morrow said he draws on personale®K' his songs. “The other day, my manager waslookv my songs and he said all 1 ever write women, and I said, 'that’s because theyaif big part of my life,”’ Morrow said. “Deepi side I would like to settle down with onewtf have children and all of that good stuff. “I write about being in love and takingadi of life. I draw a lot from personal experiencf a song and exaggerate some things to make song. I am creative up to a point whereit something I have never done, but what it is like.” ) '.v l I K day* Wes clea the trou sane AGGIE 96 WILL PICK UP EVERYONE’S COVER FROM 8-10 FRIDAY LADIES NIGHT Bar Umii laiiigmBsCis ©kdczjgq orbicb $ 300 YOU’VE GOT THE LOOK CONTEST Ladies 18 & up FREE until lO p.m. Ladies 21 & up FREE until midnight SATURDAY Efeiff LkDQQggQLKBMiiQ ©“Utl [paLCDo EVERYONE 21 & OVER FREE UNTIL lO P.M.
