“1 chose A&M not because of
the tradition but because 1 had a
scholarship to the University,"
Leslie said. “1 didn't have any ex
pectations as a freshman. Dr. Joe
Townsend recruited me, and that is
when 1 started getting involved.”
Leslie said her decision to run for
student body president in 1994 re
ceived praise and criticism from fel
low students and the community.
“Being female and student body
president was a good experience,”
Leslie said. “1 think it opened up a
lot of doors for me. 1 was the first
of the first female student body
president. Being a female put me in
the spotlight.”
Leslie graduated with honors
last May from the University of
Texas Law School and works with
the law firm of Hughes & Luce in
Dallas. She said leadership should
be pursued with a passion through
out life.
“Your heart has to be in the right
place,” Leslie said. “The really
