group of friends and some bar

There are now more than 400
Musters observed throughout the
U.S. and the world. Musters are
held in places as widespread as
Africa and Europe. Regardless of lo
cation, however, they all follow a
similar ceremonial event and roll
call.
Stanley said he encourages all
students to attend Muster and
show their support.
“I think it’s every Aggie’s re
sponsibility to support the tradition
of Muster and cement the founda
tion of togetherness," he said. “One
day all of our names will be on the
roll call.”
The tradition of Muster still con
tinues strong, as evident in the
planning and work put forth by the
Muster Committee.

Muster and a freshman speech
communications major, said she
chose to volunteer with the Muster
Committee because it emphasizes
the ideal of "once an Aggie, always
an Aggie.”
As a first generation Aggie, she
said Muster shows how current and
former students at A&M take care
of each other.
“Muster means a lot to me: it’s a
symbol of respect for people who
have gone before us," Faimon said.
“The closest I can get to them is to
work with Muster."

"Muster is an unbiased insur
ance plan, meaning that when you
come to the University — no mat
ter where you are from or who you
are — you are guaranteed honor
and a commitment that you will be
honored,” Vandaveer said.
Muster events will begin at 6:40
a.m. with a flag-raising ceremony at
the Academic Plaza to honor the
Class of 1949.
A Camaraderie Barbecue from
10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. will unite Aggies
at the Academic Plaza. All dining
halls will be closed at this time. The
barbecue is S5.95 and will accept
Aggie Bucks and meal plans. Enter
tainment will include Roger Creger,
Ruthie Foster. Blue Note All-Stars,
Sly Letter, Aggie Wranglers, the TP
Delta Singers and Alpha Phi Alpha.
The Reed Arena doors will open
at 5:30 p.m. for the ceremony,
which will begin at 7. Century
Singers. Women’s Chorus and the
Singing Cadets will perform at 6:45.
Friends and families of former
students will participate in the "Roll
Call for the Absent.” a candle light
ing ceremony where the deceased
are accounted for by their loved
ones. A press release said this cere
mony symbolizes that the Aggie
family does not let go of those who
have gone. "Taps" and a 21-gun
salute will end the ceremony.
“I am honored and humbled to
be on Muster Committee," Vandav
eer said. “It is the least I can do for
the University knowing that in the
future someone will be in my posi-
diCAVYg, \Vy>s fox me."
