The Texas A&M Baseball Team
might not be humming the Bare-
naked Ladies’ “It’s All Been Done
Before” as they head into their
annual conference series against
the Baylor University Bears, but
it certainly is fitting.
Last year, the teams met with
the Big 12 regular-season title on
the line in the last weekend of
the series, and this year, even
though the series has been
moved up on the calendar, the
stakes remain high.
A&M comes in ranked fifth na
tionally by Baseball America.
The Bears stand at seventh but
hold a half-game lead over the
Aggies for the top spot in the Big
12 conference and face an easier
schedule down the home stretch.
The Aggies close the season
with a home series against the
University of Kansas and a home
game against archrival Universi
ty of Texas before playing two
games in Austin and a road series
against the University of Okla
homa.
The conference title will again
be decided on winning percent
age because of weather cancella
tions which have affected both
team. A&M lost a game to snow
against Texas Tech University,
and the Bears lost their entire se
ries to the University of Nebras
ka because of a blizzard.
The Aggies will try to get ahead
early in the series by throwing staff
ace and Waco native Casey Possum
at the Bears in the first game of the
series Friday night.
Possum will return to the
mound at Baylor’s Ferrell Field
hoping to duplicate his perfor
mance of last year, when he
struck out 15 in an 8-4 complete
game win over Baylor’s Jason
Jennings, who also went the dis-

Jennings will again oppose
Possum on Friday night after es
tablishing himself as a leading
contender for Pitcher of the Year
this season. Jennings has put up
an 8-0 record with a 2.34 ERA
this year, compared to Possum’s
7-3 mark and 2.51 ERA.
