Bowen to host barbecue
for students, administrators
BY MELISSA JORDAN
The Battalion
Texas A&M President Dr. Ray M.
Bowen will entertain students at a bar
becue this evening, giving administra
tors and students the opportunity to in
teract in an informal setting.
Bowen’s barbecue will be at 6:30
p.m. at his home and will give 100 stu
dents the opportunity to share their
concerns and ideas about the Universi
ty with administrators.
The barbecue dinner will be served
by administrators. The Agonizers, a
barber shop quartet from the Singing
Cadets, will perform.
Sherylon Carroll, interim executive
director for the Office of University Re
lations, said Bowen began holding the
barbecue after a student introduced the
idea to him.
Carroll said Bowen hosts the barbe
cue once a semester to give students
and administrators the opportunity to
know each other better.
Tlira King, media communications
specialist in the Office of University Re
lations, said Bowen promotes events
like this to ensure students’ concerns
are addressed.
“The purpose of it is so that Dr.
Bowen can have some one-on-one time
with students,” King said. “Dr. Bowen
does these things so he can have more
contact with students.”
Carroll said students may not realize
they have access to administrators who
are available to hear their suggestions.
In the event of rain during the bar-
beque, the event will be moved inside
the Clayton Williams Alumni Center.
