9th-inning rally
leads Ags to win
Late heroics help baseball team
to victory over UT-San Antonio
Scarcella. The sophomore
righthander was able to retire
the side with only five pitches to
close the first inning.
A&M finally got to White in
the bottom of the fourth, when
they were able to tag him for
four runs. After two outs, the
Aggies started a rally, highlight
ed by a three-run bomb off the
bat of junior Dell Lindsey. The
three straight doubles that fol
lowed was enough for UTSA to
bring relief pitcher Hector
Rodriguez into the game to stop
the bleeding.
The Roadrunners were able to
climb back into the game in the
next half-inning as they pulled
together three runs, two off a
homerun by Ryan Smith.
Scarcella was taken out of the
game in the top of the sixth, and
A&M quickly imploded as UTSA
tagged Aggie pitchers Khalid
Ballouli and Matt Knight for
seven runs on four hits, three
walks and three errors.
The Aggies looked out of
sync as basic outs turned into
big problems and the seven runs

The Battalion
If you have never seen
Charlie Hough, then Tuesday
night at Olsen Field was your
chance. The
Texas A&M
Baseball Team
hooked up with
the University of
Texas at San
Antonio to try
and pull their
season series
even after a
tough 10-9 loss
in San Antonio last month. The
Aggies came out victorious, 11-
10, in the end, but it was a hard-
fought win.
The Roadrunners tossed
sophomore Kevin White, whose
knuckleball baffled the Aggies.
His Hough-like pitches winded
their way home at speeds
clocked at less than 50 mph.
Though only able to pull off
one hit through three innings,
the Aggies were still in the game
behind the pitching of Chris

turned into a 10-4 UTSA lead.
“We were just not mentally
into it, but we fought through it
till the end,” A&M coach Mark
Johnson said.
But A&M put together a huge
rally over the next three innings.
A long bomb by Shawn
Schumacher and a two-run,
pinch-hit double by Erik Sobek
helped the Aggies climb within
one. Steve Scarborough tied the
game up at 10 in the bottom of
the eighth, scoring Sobek on a
single slapped through the right
side of the infield.
It looked like a repeat of the
San Antonio game was on the
way when the Roadrunners took
the lead again in the tenth
inning, but a two-out fly ball to
left by A&M’s Neal Stephenson
carried dramatically over the
fence to tie the game up in front
of 2,932 raucous fans.
“Before he threw the ball, I
was just thinking about keeping
my hands down, and then I hit it
and thought that it had a
chance,” Stephenson said.
A single by Steven Truitt, fol
lowed by the game-winning sin
gle by Blake Whealey, gave the
Aggies he win.
Johnson said it was a great
win for the team heading into
the weekend series with Baylor
University.
“It was a good comeback win
for us,” he said. “I enjoy seeing
two freshman step up for us big
time.”
