Public-health professionals are celebrating Nation
al Public Health Week today through April 11 to raise
awareness of public health issues.
The Texas A&M University System Healtli Science
Center School of Rural Public Health and the Brazos
County Health Department will present displays on
public health at Post Oak Mall, and the School of Rur
al Public Health will host a presentation to raise aware
ness.
Displays from each organization will be in front of
the information desk at Post Oak Mall from 10 a.m. to
6 p.m. Tliesday. Dr. Barbara Quiram, director of ad
ministrative services for the School of Rural Public
Health, will present information about the benefits of
public health efforts at noon Thursday in 701 Rudder.
Andrea Pool, communication specialist at the School
of Rural Public Health, said public-health immuniza
tion programs save lives and money. Every dollar spent
on polio immunization saves $6.10 in 1
according to the Texas Statewide Health 0
Council.
Pool said public-health efforts have added
to the life expectancy of the average Texand,
past 100 years. She said public-heath prograir;|
