This game is the sole reason many people buy a Nintendo 64. With 16 different race tracks and eight different characters, some thing new happens every time this game is played. Anybody who played the original version on Super Nintendo will be pleased with the vast improvements this game has received while at the same time keeping everything that made the original great. Most of the old characters are present, some of the same basic tracks and everybody’s favorite “Battle Mode.” The upside to this game is it allows up to four people to play at the same time, so it will bring out the competitor in anyone and will quickly turn good friends into enemies. The game play is excellent — quick and responsive. The charac ters will do what they are supposed to do when they are supposed to do it. The graphics are typical of Nintendo — bold colors with a cartoon type of quality to them. The graphics are not great when compared to some of the newer Nintendo games, but they are passable. The simple fact is this game is just plain fun. “MarioKart” will cause the hours on the clock to roll off without anybody noticing, which could be a bad thing, but in this case is not.
