Amber Fairchild, president of Howdy Ags and a junior civil engi neering major, said the organization assumed control of the project from the Traditions Council last year so the week could receive full attention from its sponsor. Fairchild said Howdy Week pro motional activities are executed by volunteers and organization mem bers recruited at the Spring and Fall MSC Open Houses. She said there are more than 100 volunteers this se mester. Scott Maxey, a volunteer and a freshman chemical engineering ma jor, said students interested in partic ipating apply at Open House. Maxey, a member of the T-shirted team that parades throughout cam pus greeting people and encouraging responses, said when Howdy Week approaches, the volunteers sign up for activities and shifts. Maxey said the Howdy tradition is important for tions specialist for the College of Ar chitecture, said the award is signifi cant because it considers all students who have worked on any sort of in ternational project. “The award is presented to stu dents who do their biggest work on an international project.” Bern hausen said. “This is a big deal be cause it takes into consideration a large number of students who work on important international projects.” The project that won last year's award involved building a school and renovating existing educational facilities in a small town in Thailand. shows their appreciation to Texas A&M, the importance of the library and the roots the Bushes have in Texas.
