Green
Continued from Paged
before, but Shadow Canyon is one of the first places
he was the headliner.
“I had played around before, opening up for oth
er people, but Shadow Canyon was one of my first
headliners,” Green said. “I enjoy headlining be
cause I get to play longer.
“It gives people a chance to feel the atmosphere
and hear the music how it’s supposed to be played.”
Sebastian Sheetz, a junior biology major, said Pat
Green concerts give the audience a chance to really
understand and feel his music.
“You listen to his first albums, and you can get
an idea of how his music is,” Sheetz said. “But then
you go to a show and you know how it is, how it re
ally is.”
Green said he enjoys his large Aggie following.
“College Station was my first big crowd, and they
are always my rowdiest crowd,” Green said. “I owe
them so much.
“They basically paved the way for me. Without
them, I might not be where I am at today, so I real
ly enjoy playing a long show for the Aggies. They
are really a fun crowd.”
Green has made a pretty good name for himself
as a Texas music star for someone who did not play
the guitar until he started college at Texas Tech Uni
versity.
“I started playing guitar because my friends were
playing,” Green said. “That and the girls seemed to
be impressed by it.”
By the time Green graduated, he had already ac
cumulated a rather large following in the Lubbock
area.
“1 graduated Tech in ’96 or ’97 — 1 don’t know,
a few years back,” Green said. “The band had been
together for a few years and had started to get pret
ty big by graduation.”
Green’s success already has his name being
thrown around with Texas music greats Robert Earl
Keen, Jerry Jeff Walker and Jack Ingram.
His fame and popularity have taken off faster
than anyone expected.
He attributes this to playing in smaller places and
building up a grassroots following.
“About two years ago 1 started doing this as a full
time job,” Green said. “And it is because of playing
in places like College Station.”
Playing along with Green tonight will be Aggies
Brendon Anthony on fiddle, Justin Pollard on drums
and Brett Danaher on guitar. Picking up on the bass
will be John McBride.
