A&M students will present
a series of skits pertaining to
communication in relation
ships and sexual situations at
7 p.m. in Rudder 510.
“Communication & Rela
tionships” is sponsored by
Student Health Services,
Health Education and Aggie
Representatives Educating
About College Health
(REACH) as a part of Sexual
Responsibility Week.
Dr. Alicia Marshall of the
Department of Speech Com
munications and Margaret
Griffith, health education co
ordinator for Student Health
Services, are creators and
participants of the event. The
program will feature stu
dents acting out scenarios
concerning sexual issues rel
evant to students and rela
tionships. There will be four
skits, each about a different
issue.
Marshall said the event
will not be a lecture but a
light-hearted, student-based
presentation.
“Our take-home message
is for everyone to respect, lis
ten to and communicate
with their partner,” she said.
“One cannot be sexually re
sponsible without communi
cating with their intimate
partner. ”
Audience members will
have an opportunity to par
ticipate in the presentation.
Griffith said the audience
is an important aspect of the
performance because they
will be asked to comment on
the skits.
“We will discuss [with the
audience] what happens in a
sequence, how they felt
about it and how they should
react,” she said.
Courtney Liebrum, a se
nior speech communication
major, said she will partici
pate in a skit promoting the
virtue of self respect.
Liebrum said the skits will
have scenarios of role rever
sal, so the opposite sex will
be able to see how the other
feels in different situations.
“What we want to accom
plish is to have students
want to take responsibility
for their own actions, sexu
ality and well being,” she
said.
