Saturday night the Aggies lost to the University of Southern California 15-8, 8-15, 15-5, 5- 15. USC out hit the Aggies .260 to .165, and barely out-blocked Football Continued from Page 7 Parker went in motion out of the back field and Stewart drilled him on a quick slant route. Parker did the rest of the work, breaking a tackle and outrunning a KSU defender for the touchdown. “I was supposed to have one-on-one coverage with me and the safety,” Parker said, “but the corner came over and played me and he was much smaller than the safety. “Once I caught the slant, I felt him fall off my body and 1 saw I them 13 to 12. Five USC players had at least 10 digs each. The Aggies have never beaten USC. Senior Stacy Sykora led the team with 15 kills and 14 digs. Junior Amber Woolsey had 15 blocks and junior Lauri Leahy had 11 blocks to help the Aggies in the loss. The Aggies finished the season at 21-9. had one man to beat, so I ran for the end zone. I’m 5 [feet] 11 [inches], but on that play, I was about six feet [tall] stretching for the endzone. I did not know if I was in or not, but I saw the ref throw his hands up, and then I went to celebrate with the Corps [of Cadets].” A&M will face Ohio State in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1, 1998, in the New Orleans Superdome. The Buckeyes are ranked No. 3 in The Associated Press Poll. PARKER NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The New Orleans Saints made the Dallas Cowboys look like the team that ranked 28th offensively in the NFL. Kerry Collins threw touch down passes of 4 and 89 yards, and the Saints held Dallas to just 182 yards in a 22-3 rout of the Cowboys on Sunday. The victory kept the Saints (6- 7), who lost seven of their previ ous nine games, alive in the NFC playoff race. The Cowboys (8-5) could have clinched the 25th playoff berth in their 39-year history with a victory. Dallas, which scored 30 or more points in the first six games Troy Aikman played this season, converted just four of 14 third downs. It was the first time Dallas failed to score a touchdown since Oct. 26, 1997, against Philadelphia. Aikman completed just 16 of 32 passes for 192 yards and was sacked twice. Emmitt Smith, who has scored 123 career rushing touchdown, one away from the career NFL record, was held to 6 yards on 15 carries. It was Smith’s worst game with 10 or more rushes since he had 18 yards on 11 carries against conference foes the New York Giants in 1996. The Saints, who have not allowed a touch down in the Superdome since Game 5 against San Francisco, brought heat from the opening play, when Smith was hit for a 4-yard loss. On the second play. La Roi Glover grabbed Aikman in the end zone, and he drew an inten tional grounding call for a safety when he tried to get rid of the ball before he went down. Cowboys cornerback Kevin Mathis, starting for the injured Deion Sanders, intercepted a pass from Collins on the New Orleans 16-yard line, but after three straight incompletions, Dallas settled for a 33-yard field goal by Richie Cunningham for a 3-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. New Orleans, ranked 28th in the league offensively, showed surprising signs of life, giving the defense a boost. The Saints’ defense scored six of the team’s 24 touchdowns coming into the game. In the second quarter, Collins, scrambling on third-and-goal from the 4-yard line, passed to Aaron Graver in the end zone, putting the Saints up 9-3. With 1:49 left in the half, Collins hit Andre Hastings with an 89-yard touchdown pass — the second-longest scoring pass ever against the Cowboys. Doug Brien added a 53-yard field goal with no time left on the clock for a 19-3 halftime lead. Brien added a second 53- yarder for the only score of the second half to make it 22-3. Dallas had a chance to score in the final two minutes of the game when penalties gave it first-and- goal on the 1. But the Cowboys could not crack the goal line in eight attempts inside the 10-yard line. Collins completed 16 of 28 passes for 239 yards and one interception.
