Stage Center is presenting My Three Angels” by Sam and Bella Kvack, a comedy about the spirit of hange and finding the good in life. ■he play’s setting is Christmas Eve. Be convicts have been hired to repair the roof for the Doucotel family and along the way, the convicts repair not only the roof, but the problems of the family. Deborah English, director of “My Three Angels,” said her first exposure to this play was in high school. “This was my first time directing, and I really liked and wanted to do this play,” she said. “I was so excited when I saw that no one else was doing it, and so I did it. I never had so much fun working on a play. It was wonderful and I was so proud of it. 1 love comedy.” tins’ pa ed with i (AP) — Ricky amily say running back.bil: ephone calls, tut a month, the Bided about ones ed fans, asking lams" or "The iams.” Theyca how people are ted number, mystery," said lliamses saytte Ricky wins the Jt right now, we he wins andm tg in and people /ell, our neigh" t,” Mrs. an Fellowship of" Fellowship: Hr | b30 p.m. lyer, and Bible* by social time at 764-1552 If iit web sill 3du/~inlow/ivcfJ F or Christ: i. in 274 Read it 1st Students: ip service at Contact rmation. ater Polo: ^creation ontact Athena et] ; Association: at 8:30 p.m, the blue screi Rugby Team in the fieldbeh all Lucas at 961 i. GREG MCREYNOLDS/Tm: Battalion ed looks after Marie after she faints during Stage Center’s production of “My Three The play is directed by Deborah English and runs through Dec. 19. The play first opened on Broadway in 1953 and the movie version, titled We’re No Angels, was filmed in 1955 with Humphrey Bogart. Jamie Fisher, who plays Mary-Louise Doucotel, said the movie version is dif ferent from the play. “I watched the movie after I was cast, and I found it was not the same because they had changed a lot of the play,” she said. “The character I play is more head strong in the play.” The play is set in French Guiana, where the the temperature is a warm 104 degrees, making a Christmas visit from a miserly uncle and his snotty nephew seem un bearable to the Doucotel family. However, the arrival of the unwanted pair sets off a roller coaster of laughs for the audience. English said the play is fun to do be cause it is not a melodrama. “I was in ‘Frankenstein,’ but that was so dramatic,” she said. “I was very hap py to do a comedy. We don’t do it to be funny, but to be serious because that is when the joke comes across. If the audi ence does not get it, then the actors keep on going. It was a lot of work, but to hear the audience laughing makes the end product worth it.” Fisher said she had seen “Franken stein” and was overcome with tears. , “I went and saw ‘Frankenstein,’ and that was emotionally stirring,” she said. “I think I cried like 32 times and I came out feeling like crap. But it is Christmas time, and this play is meant to make peo ple feel good.” Three of the main characters in the play are the unconventional convicts — Jules, who committed a crime of passion, Alfred, who committed a murder for money, and GREG MCREYNOLDS/The Battalion Alfred, portrayed by Brett Guttormson, takes care of Marie, portrayed by Jamie Fisher, during Stage Center’s production of “My Three Angels.” Joseph, who was an embezzler. Fisher said the play is about having the ability to change one’s life. “The final message is that everyone can change and turn around,” she said. “They [the convicts] went from criminals to saviors. When I first heard the title, I thought it would be angel parts, but these were convicts. They were funnier and made wisecracks all the time.” The laughter is not restricted to the lines of the convicts. Paul, portrayed by Joshua Campbell, is another interesting character. Campbell said the best part about por traying Paul is hearing the audience laugh. “It is just a laugh and a good time,” he said. “When you are on stage and you get them [the audience] to laugh and you hear them laugh, it makes it more fun. With a drama, there is not as much feedback, but with a comedy, it is more audience reaction.” on’t Miss Out On the Holiday Specials!
