Yennello said as the number of
women faculty increases, incidents of
discrimination will decrease.
“The University has come a long
way in terms of women, but perhaps
this indicates they have a long way to
go,” she said. “The more we get
women into senior positions, the
more it will change things."
Dr. Jane Close Conoley, dean of Ed
ucation, is the only female dean at A&M.
“The small number of women fac
ulty make it likely that they would
feel institutional discrimination,” she
said. “I’ve been impressed with the
very effective, aggressive work on the
part of the dean of Faculty, President
and Provost for their support of
women’s studies.”
The survey also found that white
female faculty are the group most
likely to report incidents to .a Univer
sity authority.

A wreath-laying ceremony was
held today by the Corps of Cadets in
remeberance of Veterans Day. Kelly
Garrity, Deputy Corps Commander
and senior journalism major, said
that the event was brief and simple,
and was a chance to reflect oh the
sacrifices that others had made.
Garrity thanked everyone that at
tended, then a prayer was said. Ma
jor General M.T. “Ted” Hopgood, Jr,
Commandant of the Corps then
spoke. He said that many of the op
portunities made possible today
come from the sacrifices of patri
ots. Many of these patriots are vet
erans, and in turn many of these
veterans are Aggies.
Garrity said that the brief and
simplistic nature of the wreath cer
emony was symbolic of the day.
“This is a moment of personal re
flection,” Garrity said. “This is our way
of taking a moment to remember peo
ple who made the ultimate sacrifice.”

Brooks said there are three areas in
which fatherhood changes: authorship,
royal authority and paternal authority.
Brooks said the change of writing
technology from the scroll to codex
(book form) coincides with the birth of
Christ. In the Bible, Christ brings about
the “Book” (authorship), and he is the
“King” (royal authority) as well as the
“Father” (paternal authority).
Brooks will teach a course on this
subject in the spring and one next
fall. The one in the spring is “Parent
ing and Printing in Early Modern Eng
land,” also called “Ink & Kin,” and
the one next fall is an honors course
called “Technologies of Parenting in
World Literature.”

UT regents consider
reopening clocktower
Correction
In Wednesday’s story “Confer
ence to develop freshman leader
ship,” the deadline for applications
for the Conference on Freshman
Leadership Organization (COFLO)
was incorrectly printed as Nov. 23.
The deadline for applications is Fri
day, Nov. 13.
HOUSTON (AP) — A proposal to re
open the University of Texas clocktower
goes before university regents this week,
23 years after suicides and one of the na
tion’s worst mass shootings forced offi
cials to close the landmark to the public.
The nine-member panel, meeting in
Houston, was scheduled Thursday to
consider UT President Larry Faulkner’s
plan to reopen the Austin school’s ob
servation deck to tourists.
“I believe there is substantial support
on the board, but they have the right of
decision,” Faulkner said Wednesday.
