lichael Jackson settles
tabloid lawsuits Monday
LONDON (AP) — Michael Jackson settled
lawsuit Monday over tabloid stories that
laid his face was disfigured by cosmetic
jurgery.
The terms of the settle
ment with The Mirror were
lot disclosed.
But the tabloid apolo-
lized for four 1992 articles,
lith photographs, that sug
gested numerous opera-
lions had left the pop star
fadly scarred.
"The photographs were
laken honestly and were not tampered with,”
(levin Bays, a lawyer and publisher said.
“But The Mirror has since met with the
blaintiff in person and acknowledges that the
bhotographs do not accurately represent the
[ilaintiff’s true appearance.”

For $2 more, the oxygen can be spiked
with lemon, lime or orange.
Proponents of recreation
al oxygen blasts claim it eas
es headaches, boosts alert
ness, fights fatigue and
reduces stress.
“It gives you a nice little
buzz,” the former “Cheers”
star said.
The club has had a steady
flow of customers since
opening last month. A club
room has disc jockeys and dancing on week
ends, with yoga classes and nutrition lec
tures planned later.
“We want this to become a place where
people can hang out and learn about nutri
tion, herbs and meditation,” Deandrea said.
Lewis offered $5 million
for Cinderfella remake
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Jerry Lewis has
signed a deal to sell the
rights for a new version of
Cinderfella.
Lewis and New Line Cine
ma did not disclose financial
terms, but Daily Variety re
ported Monday he received
seven figures and could end
up with as much as $5 mil
lion, depending on how the
movie does at the box office.

Munoz said the organization is
very diverse in its makeup.
“We’re known as the social
committee for people who don’t
like social committees,” Munoz
said. “We’re very diverse from the
regular ‘Joe Aggie’ to the two per
center sitting next to him. We’re
all bound by the fact that we all
like science fiction and fantasy. ”
The club is very laid back,
Munoz said, and it stems from
the personalities of the members.
For example, the number of
members who pay dues is 40,
while as many as 70 regularly at-
I tend the meetings.
Those serving as members of
one group are likely to join the
other two. Several Cepheid Vari
able members are also a part of
Academic Vampirica, a fan club
promoting the literature, films
and other mediums of the goth
ic/horror genre.
Shane Wells, president of
Academic Vampirica and a se
nior psychology and philoso
phy major, said the organiza
tion was started four years ago
for fans of the gothic and hor
ror genres, and has a member
ship of 40 members.
“We’ve become a lot more in
the past four years,” he said.
“Now we’re more of an umbrella
organization for groups that want
to do live-action role playing.”
The group has recently be
come a part of Camarilla, a na
tional group that promotes
LARPS (Live Action Role Play
ing games).
“Live action role playing is
kind of like improv theater,”
Wells said. “Members make up
character^ and improvise on
them in ongoing storylines. We
try to stress depth in characteri
zation to make it more interest
ing and fun.”
The types of games typically
played involve the four classes of
Vampire, Werewolf, Wraith and
Changeling (fairies).
A basic rule system is set up
for the games, and the rest cre
ates itself.
Character conflicts such as
combat, debates or simple argu
ments are solved by ’’paper-
rock-scissors.”
Along with hosting its own
games, Academie Vampirica co
programs with NOVA and
Cepheid Variable.
It hosts competition games at
AggieCon, NovaCon and WarCon
each year.
The interconnection of student
organizations at A&M helps clubs
offer the student body better pro
grams, as well as creating closer
connections between the clubs
and its members.
The diverse student body of
Texas A&M is represented
through clubs such as these and
the creativity and originality of
its members.

The 1960 comedy was “my favorite project,”
Lewis said. He owns many of his films thanks
to a deal in the 1950s with Paramount that gives
him the rights after 30 years.
The Nutty Professor remake with Eddie
Murphy two years ago earned $270 million
worldwide. Cinderfella could be out next year
or in early 2000.
The original Cinderfella was a retelling of
the fairy tale with Lewis playing a male Cin
derella up against a wicked stepmother and
two greedy stepsons.
Charles gives go ahead
for trading with Macedonia
SKOPJE, Macedonia (AP) — Prince Charles
rang the bell Monday to start trading on Mace
donia’s tiny stock market as he
wound up a weeklong tour of
Eastern Europe.
The 2-year-old exchange
in this former communist
nation has only eight li
censed brokerages and two
listed companies,
Charles also chatted with
directors of small companies
partially financed by British loans.
They showed him their wares, including
bathroom tissue, basketball hoops and
chemical-free cabbages.
Most of the country’s business and industri
al sectors are still in state hands six years after
Macedonia split peacefully from Yugoslavia.
