The track “Doo Wop (That Thing)” show cases this range. TWo lyrical gems can be found on the album that are not listed on the jacket. Her renditions'of “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You” and “Tell Him” are reminescent of The Score’s “Killing Me Softly,” but that does not make it or the rest of the album any less enjoyable. (Grade: A-) — Aaron Meier CD REVIEWS highlight of the album. LeBlanc’s talent is showcased on “Lovers or Friends.” With lyrics like, “Are we lovers or are we friends?/And can we ever be both again /There’s a feeling here that never ends /I would give my life to live again,” the song is easily the strongest on the entire album. Mercyland is a strong offering from Cow boy Mouth, but not its best. (Grade: B) —Manisha Parekh ward or backward. The beauty is it does not really matter. Combustible Edison has stumbled onto an entirely new genre, and mastered it completely. If The Impossible World is indeed eleva tor music, it is the elevator in Willy Won ka’s chocolate factory that goes through the roof and into the stratosphere. Still despite its lackluster content. The Globe Sessions makes for good listening. After the group’s past albums, Mercy land is a slight let down. Many songs sound as if they were lifted from previous Mouth albums. The arrangements sound overdone. However, Cowboy Mouth still gives the fans what they want. With their third al bum, The Impossible World, the band has successfully merged easy-listening, lounge and electronica into a form of music that is not only bearable but outstanding. Steering the band in new directions are producer John Holbrook, whose past work includes Hendrix’s Electric Ladyland and Scanner, who is best known for his collab orations with DJ Spooky. In the end, listening to The Impossible World is like stepping into a time warp with an identity crisis. Her latest album The Globe Sessions is far from being her best work, but it still has the inti macy that has become Crow’s trademark. While The Globe Sessions’ first track, “My Favorite Mistake,” is radio-friendly, all of the album’s tracks take on a rougher blues-feel compared to Crow’s previous projects. Crow explores a more Dylan-esque style with this album. She even covers the Bob Dylan tune “Mississippi” with moderate success.
