Page 4 • Thursday, October 1, 1998 Aggielife Movie Review K Starring Sean Gullette and Mark Margolis Directed by Darren Aronofsky Showing at Hollywood 16 Rated R After making the art house rounds for months, one of the most talked about movies of the year has come to Aggieland. Audiences looking for a creative, unique movie should not be turned away by the facts that rt was shot in black and white and is basi cally about math and science. Aronofsky provides ten sion and surprises that enter tain and entrance. The images in k are often disturbing, and the audience is likely to feel a touch of the discomfort that Gullette’s character experiences. Quick camera work, quick editing and an appropriately hectic techno score keep the film’s look modern despite the lack of color. However, as a spoken- word performer on his latest album. Think Tank, Rollins puts his usual crowd to sleep with his performance that more closely resembles a stand-up routine than a spo ken-word performance, on disc one. However, Rollins redeems himself on disc two with his tales of life on the road with Rollins Band and Black Flag. These are the kinds of sto ries fans have come to expect from his normally intense spoken-word performances. Rollins should have con centrated on relating his ex periences on disc one and left the observational comedy to Jerry Seinfeld and the like. (Grade: C +) — Jeff Webb T he members of Cox’s Primate Jubilee, or CPJ, may not be able to find the exact words to de scribe their band to others, but they do know what kind of reactions they want from crowds. Applause is appreciated, but laugh ter is what the band values most. Bryan Cox, a senior marketing major and namesake of the band, said the crowd’s reaction is the key to their shows. “We’re not just trying to make peo ple laugh with the performance, but we’re trying to get them into it,” Cox said. “We’re going all out with this show and trying to get a fun reaction out of people Joshua Worthy, one of CJP’s vcal- ists and a junior journalism major, said the band’s performances are of a light-hearted nature. “You can laugh at the lyrics of the song or at the performance itself,” Wor thy said. “You don’t just sit and listen to the music; we put on a show.” Alden Wilkins, one of CPJ’s guitarists and a senior management major, said the show is unique. “It’s like nothing you’ve ever seen,” Wilkins said. After performing together locally for about a year, CPJ is trying to find new venues and new audiences. But Cox said the band is happy with performing of any kind. “We have the best time just practic ing and stuff,” Cox said. "If we have five people listening, we have the best time. ” Jeff Schiefelbein, a junior marketing major and CPJ vocalist, said the honor of the band’s name belongs to Cox be cause he does not get to lead the band. “When it was just the three of us, we thought, ‘Cox isn’t the lead singer, and he’s not the lead guitar, so he gets his name on the band,”’ Schiefelbein said. The ‘Primate Jubilee’ reflects the fact that all four member proud of their fully-fumi able thumbs. Cox said the band’s: more than just music. "‘Gnome’ is not so mm feeling.
