But anyone visiting the fourth floor of Building A can see there is a big problem. There is an approximately six- inch separation between the beams. Claycamp said the minor prob lems with the architecture build ing require proper upkeep, which is costly. “It does require expensive maintenance, probably more maintenance than most of the buildings,” he said. “It may be sick, but it is not unsafe.” The Langford Building has had several notable events take place in its halls including an evacua tion caused by the last of two bomb threats on November 29, 1983. Twenty years and one day after the first dedication of the build ing, there was a break-in over Spring Break in 1987, resulting in a $14,000 loss of computers and student work. “It (Langford) may be sick, but it is not unsafe.” — Carroll Claycamp Architecture professor A second evacuation was needed because of smoke infiltra tion from a generator in 1995.
