Two plays later, Hall took a handoff to the left
side of the formation from the 44-yard line and,
thanks to five blown USM tackles, dove into the
end zone to give the Aggies a 14-0 lead after a
Parker two-point conversion run.
“As long as I was out there, 1 was fine," Hall
said. “I knew I could play, but I hadn’t prac
ticed all week. I knew it wouldn’t be fair to all
the other guys that practiced if I went out there
and got all the carries.”
Slocum said the run by Hall in the second
quarter was crucial to building the lead and tak
ing the USM crowd out of the game.
“The run came at a good time,” Slocum
said. “We needed to get more distance between
them and us. It was one of those second-effort
kind of runs.
“He’ll probably be sore tomorrow. 1 came over
here thinking he wouldn’t be able to play.”
Hall accounted for 76 yards rushing, about 45
percent of A&M total offensive yardage of 171
yards. Southern Mississippi actually outgained
the Aggies in total offense by five yards.
Senior tight end Dan Campbell said Hall
provided the spark the Aggies needed to cruise
to victory.
“I can’t explain what he does,” Campbell said.
“When we’re in the huddle, we say, ‘Just give
him a crack.’ That’s all he needs — just an inch.”
