Grubworm crawls back into
RILEY LAGRONE
The Battalion
G rubworm singer-guitarist
Stephen Blake has seen his
band’s music have a signif
icant effect on listeners, young
and old.
"We played a show in front of
the MSC," Blake said. “A group of
fourth graders were having a field
day, and they stopped for lunch at
Rudder Fountain. They started
dancing and gettting really into
(the show). It was strange, but I
think they had a good time.
A group of fourth graders
worked into a mosh-pit frenzy
may seem a little unsettling at
first, but anyone who has seen a
Grubworm show probably would
not be surprised.
The band's shows frequently
get a little crazy and always get a
little loud. Audiences can get a
taste of this craziness tomorrow
night at The Cow Hop.
Although Grubworm (originally
formed in 1997 from the ashes of
Soma and Saturday Night Moses)
has been playing gigs around the
College Station club scene for little
more than a year, the band already
has a reputation for delivering hard
hitting, rap/hip-hop sets and bring
ing crowds to an uproar.
After the demise of Soma and
SNM, the original Grubworm was
formed as a five-piece band with
two drummers.
Just as the band began to capture
an audience, however, it suffered a
major loss. Stephen Phillip and Je
remy Eubanks, the band’s original
lead singer and secondary drummer,
decided to move on, leaving Grub
worm with an unsure future.
In early 1998, almost one year
after the band originally formed,
the three remaining members of
Grubworm picked up their instru
ments once again and began writ
ing as a three piece.
In the spring of 1998, Grub
worm’s new incarnation of Blake,
on vocals and guitars. Dave
Morales on bass and Chris Kline
on drums and vocals, returned to
the College Station club scene
once again, tighter and more fo
