Blue Earth creates unique soi
by crossing musical hemisphei
By Riley Lagrone
The Battalion
A sking a band to describe its
own sound usually gets one
of two responses: a roomful
of blank stares or an explanation so
complicated it is impossible to un
derstand, much less put into print.
In most cases, a simple answer
like “rap” or “alternative” is good
enough for the average listener. In
the case of Blue Earth, however, la
bels really don’t apply.
Peyton Lowrey, Blue Earth’s vo
calist, said the band is full of differ
ent musical tastes.
“We fight over the radio station
when we’re in the car,” Lowrey said.
"That’s probably why die sound’s so
hard to describe. No one likes the
same music.”
In fact, every member cited
completely different bands and
artists as their favorites.
But the variety of influences is
what makes the whole of Blue Earth
seem much greater than the sum of
its parts.
Scott Hanna, general manager of
the Crooked Path Ale House, said
the band brings a variety of skills to
their performances.
“Their music is a combination of
solid, funky bass riffs, great drums
and keys, masterful guitar work and
some serious vocals,” Hanna said.
“One minute they work through
classic blues progressions, the next
they sound like radio-quality mod
ern rock and when you expect it the
least, they break into a 311 /Beastie
Boys-style rap tune.”
This combination of bass,
drums, keyboardss, guitars and vo
cals (provided by Rob Marr, Jeremy
Renaud, Chuck Conser, Dave Duce
and Peyton Lowrey, respectively)
has been bringing larger and larger
crowds to the Crooked Path each
time the band plays a weekend gig.
The band’s live music is so im
pressive, the members were asked
to play a recent show with Big
Wreck at The Theatre in Bryan.
Access to the show was press and
ticket winners only.
Blue Earth has also released a
three-song demo tape and a five-
song EP titled Cellophane.
