People in the news In the world of comedy, Berle's son laughs last NEW YORK (AP) — Milton Berle's son is cir culating a proposal for a tell-all biography that his father might find as funny as a heart attack. The New York Post reported Monday that sev eral publishers have been reviewing a draft of the book, which portrays the comic as an absentee father, domestic tyrant, chronic gambler and a world-class womanizer. In Near You, 36-year-old Bill Berle writes that he lost his virginity when his father hired a Las Vegas showgirl to disguise herself as a maid and seduce him. "After that, when Berle and his son shared ho tel suites, Milton would finish having sex with a woman and then shout into Billy's room, 'Billy, you want her now?"' the book's co-author, Brad Lewis, told the newspaper. Buddy Arnold, a writer and producer for Berle, said he had not seen the draft. He said of the general criticisms: "I don't believe any of them. To me they are false." Berle is about to celebrate his 90th birthday with charity parties in Los Angeles this month and in New York this fall. Infamous Rodman crashes rock concert DALLAS (AP) — Dennis Rodman might want to stick with his regular line of work. The Chicago Bulls star decided to jam with Pearl jam during a concert Sunday night. Guz zling wine from a bottle, a shirtless, shoeless Rod- man leaped on stage and tried to sing along dur ing Alive and Spin the Black Circle. After the stage crew finally cut off Rodman's microphone, lead singer Eddie Vedder said to Rodman: "I'm guessing you've been drinking for about three days straight." Songstress tries hand at stage performance LONDON (AP) — Madonna will make her London theater debut next summer in a revival of Tennessee Williams' Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, producer Bill Kenwright said Monday. Although contracts have yet to be signed. Sir Peter Hall's production, with Madonna as the sex ually voracious Maggie the Cat, is expected to begin rehearsals after Madonna completes her role in the film version of the musical Chicago. The Williams play will mark Madonna's first stage appearance since David Mamet's Speed the Plow on Broadway a decade ago. Madonna is expected to commit herself to the role for 20 weeks. Ohio names park after television series veteran TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — The park where M- A-S-H actor Jamie Farr once trolled for dates and dreamed of stardom has been renamed in his honor. "I wanted to be an actor, a famous actor, and I wanted my hometown of Toledo to be proud of me," TV's CpI. Max Klinger told about 400 ad mirers Sunday. "Jamie Farr Park is certainly a highlight of my life and career." Farr said he used to go to the cantee in the former Riverside Park in the 1940s to meet girls, dance and brawl. Toledo also has a park named for another hometown boy, Danny Thomas. Actor looks to quench desire to play a cowboy LOS ANGELES (AP) — Dennis Farina has plum parts in two big summer movies but is still look ing for his dream role. "A cowboy," he said. "I'd love to do a West ern." The mustachioed actor is best known for play ing gangster types. He appears this summer in Out of Sight, an Elmore Leonard tale.
