We seem to gel a lot better.” Anthamatten said he anticipates some good exposure for the band through North by Northgate. “It’ll be cool to get us out there and let people see how bad we suck,” he said. “I’d rather people know we suck than not know us at all.” Bishop agreed that North by Northgate is a good opportunity. “It’s about time,” he said. “Hope fully, it’ll add a spark to the scene. You gotta start somewhere.” McKenzie said the band is set to play around the same time as Philadelphia’s popular alt-rock band Huffamoose, so drawing an Aggie crowd may be a challenge. An thamatten said getting students to see a live band in Bryan-College Sta tion is a challenge in itself. “We’ve got a lot of good friends — well, we’ve got a lot of bored friends with nothing to do,” Anthamatten said. “Drawing a crowd of people who don’t know us might be hard. The people we don’t know are all out at Shadow Canyon and Dixie Chick en doing their redneck thing.” Anthamatten said he would like to see North by Northgate develop a lo cal music scene and unite the area as the South by Southwest festival has done for Austin. “This could ebb over into our arts and music program,” he said. “This could encourage directors to pump up the arts at A&M.” Bishop encourages music fans to check out the band’s Web site and look at the artwork displayed by Once Again Productions. He also has some advice for local students. “It’s time to get over Titanic and get into North by Northgate,” he said. T HROWAWAY Continued from Page 3 The band members have hopes of a future in music and are set to start looking for out-of- town gigs. Local musicians speculate that North by Northgate will open many doors for them. “There’s a lot of great bands out there but a lack of publicity,” Pul ley said. “But times are definitely changing for this place. Who knows? Maybe tilings will change after North by Northgate.” Pulley recommends music fans see Chris Duarte and Blue Earth. And, of course, he wouldn’t mind seeing some friendly faces at Crooked Path Friday night. “We’re a diverse band, and if you have a wide range of inter ests, you oughta check us out,” Pulley said. “Throw down the groove and a beer.” Kid Continued from Page 3 Fans have responded well to the band’s debut album, which is being distributed across the country. The band also is featured in this month’s edition ofTexas Monthly. Austin recommends music fans who have bought passes to the festival to rotate between' ble Dave’s and Cow Hop. “Between Atom 12, Slow RooseveL there’s some awesome bands,” Austin si. good-time college radio music.” Kid Fantastic will take the stagesettoj out-of-towners a wild live performance “We hope a lot of people will comet Reckless Continued from Page 3 “Well, I’m out to prove them wrong and prove them wrong in a big way. In a few years, I hope to be known as one of the best harp play ers in the world.” Drummer Will Nunez has quite an impressive musical background, in cluding stints as the Clyde Bros. Circus’ drummer and a house drummer at a Bourbon Street club in New Orleans. “ I feel like I’m finally home with the Reckless Panhandlers, no matter what the final outcome,” he said. Lead guitarist Mark Thomas was playing three-chord surfer tunes by the time he reached high school. 1 le was playing with another band when he met Goodin. “We were all moved by the power and passion of his songs," Thomas said. “We knew he was the one.” Andrew Asare, bass guitarist, was introduced to music in Wales, Great Britain and Ghana, West Africa. Influ enced by Bob Marley, Asare was in spired by his “spiritual message and positive vibes” and moved to the States to attend Texas A&M. Asare brings African, jazz and reggae to the band.
