In his last three games, Jones has scored 24, 28 and 32 points. Coach Tony Barone said that Jones is draw ing more attention be cause of his recent scor ing binge. “He’ll get a little bit more closely guarded, I think, even though that’s to his advantage, because he’s got excellent quickness, and he can out-quick most of those guys,” Barone said. Tech is coming off an 82-71 win over Baylor on Sunday in which all-conference guard Cory Carr scored 31 points and pulled down 10 re bounds to bringTech from behind. Carr was named Big 12 player of the week for his efforts. “He just took the team and put it on his back against Baylor,” Barone said. Carr has been in double digits in scoring for 39 straight games and Barone said his quickness makes him tough to defend. “He’s got a great quick first step, especially going left,” Barone said. “He really goes left better than he goes right.” Barone also said that stop ping the Red Women take on Horns in Austin ‘He just took the team and put it on his back against Baylor.” Coach Tony Barone on Shanne Jones Raiders from the outside would be crucial. “Tech has three really good perimeter guys,” Barone said. “Rayford Young, Carr and Bonewitz are all really outstanding perimeter players. I think we match up well with them, and I hope it’s going to be a good game.” By Robert Hollier Staff writer The Texas A&M Women’s Basket ball Team (6-13, 2-7) will be look ing for its third confer ence win to morrow at 1 p.m. against the Texas Longhorns (7-12, 3-6) in Austin. The Aggies, coming off a tough 85-82 home loss to the Baylor Bears, are looking to be more aggressive against a talent ed Texas team. Aggie Coach Candi Harvey said the team must come out with more intensity as well as more preparation. “We have to prepare better and harder in practice if we’re go ing to beat anybody,” Harvey said. “We have to come out more aggressive and less tentative on the court to win.” Kera Alexander, who scored a career high 32 points and grabbed six rebounds against Baylor Wednesday, said the way the Ag gies prepare in practice is a big key. “We have to come out with more of a we-can-win attitude,” Alexander said. Not only will the Aggies need to come physically prepared; they will need to be more mentally prepared as well. “We have to think and concen trate more if we plan to win,” Har vey said. “We’ve got to avoid the little mistakes on the court that cost us games in the end.” Another key for the Aggies to beating Texas will be their abil ity to stop Longhorn center An gela Jackson, who averages close to 22 points and 12 re bounds a game and was recent ly named Big 12 Conference Player of the Week. “Stopping her (Jackson) will be huge for us,” Harvey said. “She has tremendous talent and she re ally worries us. We will have to prepare really hard for her.” Fewer turnovers and stronger rebounding will also be a factor for the Aggies. Texas A&M had 21 turnovers which led to 10 points and they gave up 24 second chance and fast break points to Baylor on Wednesday. Harvey said that their point guard play has not been as con sistent as in the past. “We’ve gotten great individual efforts from (Brandy) Jones and Tark (Kim Tarkington) but our point guard play overall has not been very solid,” Harvey added. One of the bright spots for the Aggies besides Alexander’s ca reer high 32 points was the con tinued strong play of sophomore u We have to think and con centrate more if we plan to win, Candi Harvey Head Coach 55 guard, Amy Yates, who scored 15 points including 3 of 5 from 3- point range. Sophomore forward Prissy Sharpe posted her 14th double-double of the year which leads the Big 12.
