Stewart
Continued from Page 1
“He has a personality that naturally
makes you have a feeling of respect for
him,” Feather said. “He was an exem
plary leader as a Ross Volunteer. I
looked up to him as a freshman, a
sophomore and a junior.”
After graduation, Stewart plans to
serve in the U.S. Air Force, following in
the footsteps of his parents who both
served in the military.
“I have a pilot’s spot for the Air
Force,” Stewart said. “Being in the Air
Force may last from seven to 10 years.
I think that the meaning in life is [at
tained] through service.”
Stewart said he is considering be
coming involved in politics after he re
tires from his military career.
He said he wants to use his engi
neering background to his advantage.
“My philosophy in life is to always be
positive,” Stewart said. “Try playing the
hand of cards that you are dealt (in life).”
During Stewart’s years at Texas
A&M, he has taken advantage of the
cards that he has been dealt. Stewart
has participated in EXCEL, served as a
class consul, served as vice-president
of the Aggie Gentleman’s Society and
volunteered as a Fish Camp counselor.
He has helped coordinate several
student leadership conferences on
campus, including the Southwest
Black Student Leadership Conference.
Through involvement in activities
across campus, Stewart said he has
watched Texas A&M grow.
“I think that Texas A&M sees change
as something positive,” he said. “Now
people are readily accepting change
and I think that people are excited
about the changes taking place.”
Integration
Continued from Page 1
“Women bring a lot into the
Corps,” she said. “Men should be us
ing this opportunity of being around
women to their benefit, so when they
go into a professional environment,
they knowhow to work with women.”
Strye said her actions affect her
reputation as well as the reputation
of other female cadets.
“Women in the Corps don’t blend in
with everyone,” she said. “My seniors
worked so hard to be accepted. I have
to watch my image constantly because
people are always watching me.”
Strye said integration has taken a
small step forward this year.
“Many times men join the Corps
because their fathers were in the
Corps,” she said. “This year we have
the first female cadet who joined be
cause her mother was a member.”
