Hodge
Continued from Page 7
“He’s a big guy,” Marshall said. “He’s got to always
continue to watch his weight so he doesn’t get too big
... like a tight end.”
This season Hodge has flourished in a more bal
anced offense. Contrary to the stereotypical run on
third-and-long play calling of years
past, Marshall has opted for an
equal distribution of the run and
pass. As the season progresses, the
number of pass plays has in
creased. And along with it, so has
the increased role of the wideouts.
Hodge has caught 11 passes for
163 yards. He surpassed his previ
ous career-high long reception with
a 41 -yard catch against Iowa State.
One of the reasons Hodge has
been able to play in every game of
his young college career, according to wide receivers
coach Steve Kragthorpe, is his ability to play with pain.
“What he does is push through some of those nag
ging injuries that you get this time of year,” Kragthor
pe said, “A muscle tweak, or a bruise. He does a good
job of pushing himself and working hard in practice.”
In addition to his offensive output, Hodge has es
tablished himself as a dependable blocker. Hodge
posted a block 30 yards down field against the Cy-
Hodge
clones, to allow tailback Sirr Parker to cap off an 80-
yard run with a touchdown.
But Hodge’s versatility comes as no surprise to his
coaches. Kragthorpe said Hodge’s physical style of
play reminds him of a certain Dallas Cowboy, Pro
Bowl receiver.
“He reminds me of a Michael Irvin type of guy,”
Kragthorpe said. “A big, strong physical receiver, who
runs well enough that he can be a legitimate deep
threat. And yet does a nice job of using his body to
shield defenders.”
Fortunately, the comparison between Irvin and
Hodge ends there.
“What Leroy has is a quiet intensity,” Kragthorpe
said. “When I say Michael Irvin I certainly wouldn’t
want to put him in the same category of all the off-
field troubles. It’s more of a style of play, not a style of
expression.”
A mild manner Hodge said he agrees with Kragth-
orpe’s comparison.
“(Big plays) pump me up and drive me, but I’m a
quiet guy,” Hodge said. “I do it and I know I did it. I
don’t feel I have to show off.”
Since Hodge does not have the egotistical, show-
boat type personality, does it mean Aggie hoop en
thusiasts will be deprived of seeing him don a basket
ball jersey.
“It’s possible, but I just want to focus and put my
all into one thing,” Hodge said. “I’ve though about
(calling A&M Basketball Coach Tony Barone), but not
for now.”

Second, whenever the Universi

university official come to stack

Meant to be motivational,
grode stories have extended be
yond the realm of human decency.
These stories tell of women being
raped, sodomized and even worse.
It disturbs me that people I
consider fellow Aggies tolerate,
much less participate, in such
atrocious behavior.
So if anything should be re
moved from Bonfire its grode sto

trivial in comparison.
