Festival
Continued from Page 3
“One winner will be picked
from each event, but it’s going to
be more of a festival than a com
petition,” Baldwin said. “It’s more
about the spirit of the events than
about winning.”
The festival will be taped for
broadcast Nov. 7 and 8 on MTV.
Salli Frattini, Vice President/Ex
ecutive in Charge of Production
for MTV, said he is excited about
the music lineup for theft
“The bands we have
the festival represent the
music tastes of ouraudiei
the participating athletetj
should be an exciting three

McCartney receives cheers
and jeers at London show
LONDON (AP) — The audience loved Paul Mc
Cartney’s debut symphony, but the critics weren’t
quite as enthusiastic.
At the end of the 75-minute orchestral work Tues
day night, cheering fans called the former Beatle up
to the stage for six curtain calls.
The symphonic poem, called “Standing Stone,”
which took McCartney four years to write with help
from four collaborators, draws on Celtic roots to tell
a story of chaos transformed into order. It was per
formed by 300 musicians and singers from the Lon
don Symphony Orchestra and chorus.
One critic called it superb, but others said it was
dull and likely to be quickly forgotten.
